WhatsApp Image 2025-07-17 at 16.02.34

The Ertogrul Gazy Mosque is one of the most beautiful mosques in Ashgabat, built in the Turkish style. The mosque has four minarets. One of the first mosques built after Turkmenistan’s independence, in the early 1990s. It is named after the Turkic ruler Ertogrul.
The idea to build a mosque was proposed in 1992 by Turkish Prime Minister Suleyman Demirel. On January 12, 1993, the foundation was laid. It was opened in 1998, and named after the Ottoman Sultan Ertogrul. It has an external resemblance to the Istanbul Blue Mosque, as it was built in the classical Ottoman style.
